SportVU Matchup Data: No Stopping LeBron

The Miami Heat took a 3-1 series lead on Monday thanks to an outstanding performance from LeBron James. SportVU data shows that nine different Nets defended James in Game 4, but there was no slowing him down. The Portland Trail Blazers staved off elimination on Monday as Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge found success against their primary defenders.

LeBron James torched the Nets for 49 points in Game 4. While Paul Pierce was LeBron's primary matchup, the Nets struggled regardless of who was defending him.

LaMarcus Aldridge was finally able to get it going in his matchup with Tiago Splitter, as Aldridge scored eight points on 4-of-7 shooting in 4:54 of matchup time with Splitter. Splitter has done a nice job of defending Aldridge this series, as Aldridge has only shot 14-of-41 (34%) in 26:17 of matchup time with Splitter.

Manu Ginobili and Marco Belinelli both really struggled to get their shots going off the bench for the Spurs in Game 4 versus a variety of matchups.

Lillard really excelled when San Antonio switched a big man onto him, as he shot a combined 6-of-7 versus Tim Duncan, Boris Diaw, and Aron Baynes.
