SportVU Matchup Data: Aldridge Does It Again

With SportVU data, we break down LaMarcus Aldridge's second straight monster game against the Rockets, who had no one that could shut him down. Plus, a closer look at the Monta Ellis-Kawhi Leonard matchup and LeBron finding more success against Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in Game 2.

San Antonio vs. Dallas

Monta Ellis and Kawhi Leonard have both done a nice job of slowing each other down offensively. In 11:53 of matchup time this series, Ellis has held Leonard to a combined four points on 2-of-6 shooting. Kawhi has held Ellis to five points on 2-of-13 shooting in 11:05 of matchup time. Ellis was able to get into the paint versus Leonard in Game 2, as he had seven drives in their matchup, but he was only able to score three points off of those drives.

San Antonio has done a nice job of shutting down Dirk Nowitzki with Tiago Splitter in this series.

Miami vs. Charlotte

LeBron James saw more success versus Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in Game 2 than he did in Game 1. He scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting in 8:13 of matchup time versus Kidd-Gilchrist in Game 2, compared to three points on 1-of-5 shooting versus Kidd-Gilchrist in Game 1. One key to the increased productivity was drives, as LeBron scored four points off of four drives in their Game 2 matchup, compared to 0 points off of 0 drives in Game 1.

Chris Bosh was primarily matched up with Josh McRoberts and Al Jefferson. He shot well in both matchups. He shot 4-of-5 for 10 points in 5:36 of matchup time versus McRoberts and 3-of-5 for seven points in 3:42 of matchup time with Jefferson.

Houston vs. Portland

LaMarcus Aldridge had another monster game against Portland. The Rockets were much more successful when they covered him with Omer Asik than when Dwight Howard or Terrence Jones covered him.

Dwight Howard really dominated Robin Lopez down low. He scored 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting in 6:05 of matchup time versus Lopez. Portland was much more successful when LaMarcus Aldridge was covering him, as Howard shot only 1-of-5 in 2:33 of matchup time with Aldridge.

Patrick Beverley has done a nice job of holding Damian Lillard in check this series. In 23:13 of matchup time, Lillard has shot 6-of-14 for 15 points versus Beverley. Lillard had six drives versus Beverley in Game 2, but he was only able to score two points off of those drives.
