Kenyon Martin Is the Garbage Man
By Jay Cipoletti
Kenyon Martin is not the K-Mart that Nets and Nuggets fans grew to love. The rejuvenated Martin is the quintessential garbage man, posting career best marks in Effective Field Goal Percentage (60.4%), Offensive Rebound Percentage (9.2%) and Turnover Ratio (8.7%) through his first 17 games with the New York Knicks, en route to a 108.3 OffRtg - the 2nd highest of his career.
The Knicks are thriving with Martin driving the garbage truck too, running their winning streak to 10 games with last night's 95-82 win over the Atlanta Hawks and their overall mark to 12-5 since signing Martin.
Martin is shooting 60.4% eFG despite making only 5 of 23 shots beyond 8 feet and not having any offense run through him on the block. Of his 68 field goal attempts inside 8 feet, 61 have come off of offensive rebound putbacks, off ball basket cuts or as the roll man on pick & rolls (from Synergy Sports). He is clearly thriving in his new, lower usage (14.8%) role, converting 50 of those 68 shot attempts (73.5%).
